T. K. Kurien Biography

T. K. Kurien, fondly called TK is a business executive and chartered accountant, who currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of India’s one of the biggest IT firms - Wipro Limited. He is serving the position since January 2011. He is also a member of the Wipro Corporate Executive Council. In January 2016, his successor has been announced. Wipro names Abid Ali Neemuchwala as new CEO while Kurien is to serve the position of Vice Chairman. Wipro is India’s third largest software company, following Infosys and TCS. Prior to taking the post of Chief Executive Officer in 2011, Kurien served as the President of Eco Energy business. Kurien served as the CEO of GE X Ray before joining Wipro in 2000.

 

T. K. Kurien currently resides in Bangalore. His younger days were spent in Hyderabad. He studied at Hyderabad Public School. Kurien is a chartered accountant by qualification and currently he is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He is interested in reading books on history and strategy. He served as the CFO of GE Medical Systems (South Asias) in the 1990s before he joined GE X Ray. He served as the CEO of the company during the period 1997-2000, before he joined Wipro. Till now, Kurien has over 30 years of experience in the corporate sector.

 

After spending over a decade in the firm carrying various roles, he was given the position of the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, with effect from February 2011. It was announced in January 2011 by Girish Paranjpe and Suresh Vaswani, who were serving as the Joint CEOs of the IT business. Kurien has an amazing track record for customer centricity, passion for excellence and rigor in execution and has himself proved to be a transformational leader.
