Ratan Naval Tata Biography 
Ratan Naval Tata is the chairman of the Tata sons and Tata Group. He is also the chairman of many Tata companies like Tata Steel, Tata Power, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Tata Tea, Tata Chemicals, The Indian Hotels Company and Tata Teleservices.
He was born on 28th December 1937 in Bombay in Bombay Presidency. His father was Naval Tata and his mother was Soonoo Commisariat. He belongs to the Parsy Community. He is the grandson of the founder of Tata group, Jamsedji Tata. His parents are separated in 1944 and he was taken under the care of his grandmother Lady Navajbai. He studied at Mumbai in Campion School. He joined Cornell University and got his B. S. in architecture with structural engineering in the year 1962. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
He returned to India in the year 1962 and went to Jamshedpur to work on the Tata Steel. He was appointed as the Director of National Radio and Electronics in 1971. It was with 40% losses and had 2% share in the consumer market. He turned 2% into 25% and at that time Emergency was declared and so the problem aggravated.
He worked hard to turn around the sick Empress Mills. But it was finally closed in 1986. In 1981, Ratan Tata became the successor of JRD Tata. He did not have that experience to run the company. In 1991, he was appointed as the chairman of the Tata group. He acquired Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover and Corus. He is responsible for the development of Indica and Nano.
He served as the member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. He is one of the governors of East-West Center. He also has some foreign affiliations that include the membership of the advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, the American International Group, etc. In 2010 he joined the BMB Group as the member of the advisory board. He received many award and honors including honorary doctorate from many universities.
Tata has remained single throughout his life.
