Sarla Birla Biography 
Sarla Birla was an industrialist and businesswoman belonging to Birla group of industries. She was the wife of industrialist and educationalist Basant Kumar Birla, third generation member of Birla Business Empire and daughter-in-law of Ghanshyam Das Birla, close associative of Mahatma Gandhi and a businessman. Sarla’s father Brajlal Biyani was an Indian independence activist and writer. After getting married into Birla family, she joined family business and later headed many business firms within the organization. She passed away in 2015 and her husband in 2019, and both lived 90+.
Industrialist Aditya Vikram Birla is her son, and Rajashree Birla - a philanthropist and a recipient of Padma Bhushan is her daughter-in-law. Kumar Mangalam Birla, who now heads Birla group of industries is her grandson, while Ananya Birla - a singer and Aryaman Birla - a cricketer are her great-grandchildren, who chose fields other than business. Krishna Kumar Birla, Ganga Prasad Birla, Chandrakant Birla, Yasovardhan Birla, Rameswar Das Birla, Baldeo Das Birla etc are other famous members from the family.
Sarla Birla was born in Kuchhaman, Rajasthan on 23 November 1923 into a family associated with freedom struggle movement. Her father Brajlal Biyani was a prominent independence activist. Later she became the daughter-in-law of Ghanshyam Das Birla, close associative of Mahatma Gandhi. The whole family was deeply influenced by Gandhian ideology. Born in Rajasthan, the family was settled in Maharashtra. She was introduced to her future husband by Jamnalal Bajaj and Mahatma Gandhi. With Basant Kumar Birla, she had three children. Their son Aditya Vikram Birla, who had an early death at the age of 51, followed family legacy. She was an art collector and social worker.
