Ganga Prasad Birla Biography 
Ganga Prasad Birla was a businessman and industrialist belonging to Birla business empire. He was the son of businessman Brij Mohan Birla and nephew of business tycoon Ghanshyam Das Birla. His son C. K. Birla is an industrialist and philanthropist, who currently serves as the chairman of the CK Birla Group, a conglomerate operating across home and building products, automotive and technology, and healthcare and education. Ganga Prasad Birla founded Hyderabad Industries Limited and many academic institutions such as Birla Institute of Technology, apart from many other educational institutions. He passed away in 2010.
Ganga Prasad Birla, also addressed as G. P. Birla was born in Banaras, UP. Birla family is originally from Rajasthan, belonging to Maheshwari Marwari community, which began textile business in Kolkata in the second half of 19th century. Jugal Kishore Birla, Rameshwar Das Birla and Ghanshyam Das Birla were his uncles, of whom Ghanshyam Das Birla who had a deep relationship with Mahatma Gandhi was a very prominent figure among the Birla family members. Apart from his uncles, cousins and nephews, his son Chandra Kant Birla also followed the family legacy in the field of industry and business.
Ganga Prasad Birla was the first graduate of illustrious Birla family. Soon after graduation he joined business. He joined Orient Paper & Industries in 1942 serving as a board member. He became the chairman of the company in 1957. His association with family business began in 1969 with Hindustani Motors, started by his uncle Ghanshyam Das Birla. He became its chairman in 1982. He also diversified his business plans apart from building temples in Hyderabad, Jaipur and Bhopal. He gave great importance to Indian culture, and contributed a lot in renovating many old buildings with great historic significance.
