Sonu Ratra Biography 
Sonu Ratra is an Indian-born American entrepreneur. She co-founded managed services firm Akraya Inc, and currently serves as its president. She is also on Board of Directors for the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women. Sonu mainly aims to support those career-oriented ladies to return to their work, who may have to take short breaks to raise children or other personal needs. Sonu is currently UD based.
Sonu was born and brought up in India. Her mother was paralyzed from a spinal tumor. Yet she managed to raise her three children, which inspired Sonu a lot to mentor other women to join some profession. Ratra completed Master in Project Management in Human Resources Management from Symbiosis International Educational Center, and migrated to US in 1996. After studies she worked in corporate sector for many years in companies like Genentech, Adecco Technical, Butler Technology Solutions and Tata Consultancy Services.
She left a lucrative job to spend time raising her young daughter. But when she wanted to return to work, it was not an easy task. Companies overlooked her because of the employment gap on her resume. However she managed to find a role that allowed her to build a career for herself and be a role model for her daughter. In this aim, she founded Akraya Inc in 2001 with aim to create a structured approach for companies to help women returnees to return back to their profession. Amar Panchal is its co-founder and the organization has its headquarters in Santa Clara, California. From 2009 Ratra has hosted and mentored businesswomen from Rwanda and Afghanistan, and same year she was named to the Silicon Valley Business Journal's 40 Under 40 List.
