Sonu Kakkar Biography

Sonu Kakkar is an Indian playback singer whose first big break was the item song, Babujee Zara Dheere Chalo of the Bollywood movie Dum, pictured on Yana Gupta. She got the big break to Bollywood when its music director Sandeep Chowta noticed her voice in a music show and offered her the song. Her real name is Niti Kakkar and she belongs to Rishikesh, now in Uttarakhand. After getting her first break, she shifted to Mumbai. Playback singer Neha Kakkar is her sister, who has sung songs for Bollywood movies Queen, Cocktail, Not a love story, Yaariyan and Blue. Her latest released album is ‘Don’t touch me’ with Sony BMG.

 

She started singing at jagrans at the age of 5. When Sandeep Chowta offered her the first song break in 2003, the song became a huge hit due to her grainy, powerful and unconventional voice. This fresh voice was well appreciated and was frequently used as a dance number in those days. After that she sung numerous songs for Bollywood. She became one of the first Indian artists to receive MTV Immies Award for this raunchy number. ‘Call of the lover – Sun Charke di’ from the private album Mitti of Sony BMG is her popular non-film song. Mallika I hate you is another pop number.

 

She is a brilliant Sufi singer too, who sang the track Yaadan teri yaad for the album, Euphoric Sufis. A few of her popular tracks include – Yeh Kasoor of Jism 2, Aali re Sali re of No One Killed Jessica, Theme song of Blue, O Sikandar of Corporate, Bin Laden from Jogi and many more. She sees A. R. Rahman as her godfather.
