Shreya Ghoshal Biography

Shreya Ghoshal is one of the gifted singers of Indian film industry. She is a leading playback singer in the hindi films. She has also performed in other Indian languages like Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. Her biggest asset to sway people’s hearts was none other than her melodious voice and charming smile.

 

She was born on 12 March 1984 in Durgapur, West Bengal. Her parents are Biswajeet Ghoshal is a nuclear power plant engineer who works at Nuclear Power Corporation of India. And her mother is a post-graduate in literature. She was trained in classical Hindustani music from the age of four. She completed her schooling from Energy Central School at Rawatbhata, Mumbai. Then she did her graduation in arts in English from S.I.E.S College, Mumbai.

 

She won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa children’s special episode when she was young. She began her career as a playback singer in Bollywood with Devadas. She was offered opportunity by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali to be the voice of Paro, the lead female character of the film Devadas and also sang five songs in that film. She won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer award for her awesome performance. She has worked in more than 180 films.

 

Her debut song in the south was Yen Chellam in Vasantha Balan’s Tamil film Album. She then debuted into the Malayalam film industry through the song Vida Parayukayano of Big B. At present she is one of the three judges in X Factor. She has been a judge in the Musical Talent Show, Voice of India-Chhote Ustad. She was awarded the RD Burman award for New Music Talent in 2003.

 

She won four National Film Awards for Devdas, Jism, Guru and Sinng is King and also five Filmfare awards for Best Female Playback Singer. She sang more than 100 songs in Tamil and the song Munbey Vaa got her Filmfare award in 2006.

 

She was nominated for Star screen award and Global Indian Film Awards for Best Female Playback singing in O Saathi Re in Omkara. She won IIFA best female Playback and Zee Cine award in 2003 for Dola Re in Devadas. She got Asianet film award, Kerala Film Critics award, Vijay award for Mannippaya and Swaralaya Yesudas award in 2011.
