Shruti Biography

Shruti is a south Indian actress whose works are most concentrated towards Kannada films. She has acted in about 120 Kannada films and acted in other south Indian languages as well. She has been the top heroine in 1990’s and has won many state awards and Filmfare awards as well. She has won Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for the movies, Aagatha (1995) and Gowdru (2004). She also won Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada for Aagatha. In 1996, for the movie – Kalki, she received Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress and Filmfare award. She has also received Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award for Puttakkana Highway (2011). Now she works in television as well.

Shruti's birth name is Girija. She is also known by the name Priyadarshini. She was born on 18 September 1975 in Hassan. She spent her childhood days at Puttur. She debut Kannada movies in supporting role for the movie, Aasegobba Meesegobba as Shivarajkumar's sister. She was given the name Shruti by director Dwarakish who introduced her as a leading actress for his film Shruthi. This movie was released in 1990. This movie and its success made Shruti a star. In the career spanning to more than 2 decades, she has done many memorable roles. Shruti, Taayi Illada Tavaru, Veerappa Nayaka, Gauri Ganesha, Bombat Hendthi, Muddina Maava and Midida Hrudayagalu are among those hits.

Though she is known for her acting skills and traditional girl looks, Shruti was later stereotyped for tear jerking roles. She has been paired with many leading actors of the industry including Dr.Vishnuvardhan, Dr.Ambrish, Shivarajkumar, Shashikumar, Ramesh Aravind, Jaggesh, Devaraj, Sunil and Abhijeeth Ram Kumar. She debut small screen in 2005 with Malayalam television serial, "Sthreethvam" and has appeared in Tamil soap, Karthigai Pengal.
