Satyen Bose Biography

Satyen Bose was a famous film maker of Bengali and Hindi films. His noted Hindi movies include - Raat Aur Din, Aasra, Aasu ban gaya phool, Bandish, Jeevan Mrithyu, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Dosti and Jagriti. Dosti and Jagriti have won Filmfare best movie awards. The big break of Laxmikanth-Pyarelal happened through the movie, Dosti. The movie was a huge musical hit of the year, with top songs – Meri dosti mera pyar and Chahoonga mein tujhe saanch savere. This movie entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. His debut movie was Parivarthan, an offbeat Bengali movie released in the year 1949. This movie was remade to Hindi as Jagriti in the year 1954.

 

Satyen Bose was born on 22 January 1916 in Bengal. He was regarded as an intelligent film maker. He is known for experimenting film making. He has also written the scripts of a few movies. He debut with an offbeat movie which was praised by critics. It was his idea to bring all the three Ganguly brothers under one film. The history happened in 1958, where three brothers, Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar worked together for a movie, along with Madhubala. She too, became a part of their family later. This classic comedy gave new heights to the acting careers of Kishore Kumar, Anoop Kumar as well as Madhubala. Chalti ka naam gaadi was one of the top hits of Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar during the era of 1950’s, who later delivered numerous chartbusters together.

 

Raat aur Din gave National award for actress Nargis. He was the director as well as screen writer of the movie. Jeevan Mrityu (1970) marked the debut of actress Rakhi Gulzar. He has also directed one Malayalam movie – Jeevitha Samaram in the year 1971. Other noted works of Bose include - Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa, Almol tasweer, Mere laa, Masoom, Girl friend, Tumhare Bina, payal ke jhankar, Rickshaw wala, Parichay (1954) and Anokhi pehchaan.
