Nipon Goswami Biography

Nipon Goswami is regarded as one of the superstars of Assamese film industry. He has also appeared in a few Bollywood movies in the 1970’s in the role of a character artist. He has acted in Bollywood movies like Kalasandhya, Daman and Do Anjaane. He entered film industry in 1957 as a child artist and later became one of the leading stars of Assamese film industry. As a lead actor, Sangram was his first Assamese film, which was a commercial hit too. 1969 movie, Dr. Bezbaruah brought him recognition as a star. He has been active in mobile theater and television serials. Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul, and Shakuntala are his noted plays and Writu aahe writu jaai is his memorable television serial.

 

He was born in Kolibari, Tezpur, Assam. Piyali Phukan, directed by Phani Sarma in 1957 marked his big screen debut as a child artist. Sangram – marked his successful beginning as an Assamese hero. His next movie Dr. Bezbaruah gave him instant stardom and after that, there was no turning back. He portrayed different roles on screen, from leading actor to character roles in the recent times. In the Bollywood hit, Do Anjane, he worked aside the hit-pair of 1970’s - Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha.
