Nandu Biography

Nandu is a Malayalam film actor known for supporting and comic roles. His full name is Nandalal Krishnamurthy and he belongs to Thiruvananthapuram. 2012 movie Spirit is his most noted film till now. In this movie, he played the role of a drunkard which earned him critics’ appreciation. Through this movie, he earned quick fame. Though he has been in Malayalam film industry for more than 2 decades, he got critics’ appreciation and popularity only in the recent times, through Ranjith’s National award winning movie - Spirit. He received SIIMA award for the best supporting actor, for this role. Now he is busy in the film industry and playing noticed roles as well. Nandu has been regularly featured in Priyadarshan’s movies. He has also appeared in a couple of Tamil movies – Lesa Lesa and Kadhal Mudichu.

He was born in 9 February 1965 in Thiruvananthapuram. His father Krishnamurthy was a Tamil actor. His uncle K. G. Menon was a singer and AIR artist. He has also played the role of Subhashini’s father in critically acclaimed Malayalam movie, Thakara. M. G. Radhakrishnan and Venu Nagavalli were his neighbours. He was not at all engaged in acting or stage activities during his academic years, though his family had film association. He got his first role through M. G. Radhakrishnan. Though he was offered a role by Priyadarshan for Cheppu, things didn’t happen. Sarvakalasala was his debut movie.

He has appeared in bit roles in numerous movies since late 1980s. He was seen dancing aside Divya Unni in the campus song of Pranayavarnangal – Aalelo Aalelo. Thus he was seen only in small roles throughout 1990’s and 2000’s. 2012 movie Spirit changed his life forever and he became a popular actor of Kerala. Up and Down, Hotel California, Buddhan Chirikkunnu, Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus, Immanuel, Vishudhan, Kanyaka Talkies, Amen, Housefull and ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi are his recent appearances.
