Meenakshi Biography

Meenakshi is a South Indian film actress also known by the name Sharmilee. She is credited by the name Sharmilee in Tamil movies and she made her debut in Tamil cinema before transitioning to Malayalam films. But her debut has been credited to Malayalam cinema with the year 2005. Kakkakarumbam (2004) was her debut Malayalam movie and character role played by her in this movie is Meenakshi, which was later given to her as her screen name. Now also she is known as Meenakshi. Same year megahit movie, Vellinakshatram was released in Malayalam where she played leading role opposite Prithviraj. This movie is the most successful movie of Meenakshi till now.

Real name of Meenakshi is Maria Margaret Sharmilee and she debut Tamil movie with the name Sharmilee. She was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She graduated in Mathematics from the Stella Maris College in Chennai and also holds a Master of Computer Applications degree. From younger age she received a lot of offers. Yet she concentrated on studies and took modeling side by side. She hosted a popular phone-in programme, Kasumele on Jaya TV.

Her debut movie was Aasai Aasaiyai in 2002, followed by Anbe anbe and Diwan. It was followed by her Telugu entry through the movie, Taarak in 2003. In 2004, she debut Malayalam with two movies, Vellinakshatram and Kaakkakurumban. Same year, Youth festival and Black (cameo appearance) were also released. Later she failed to sustain in Malayalam film industry and tried her luck in other regional languages.

In 2005, she appeared in the movie Junior Senior, where she acted aside Mukesh and Kunchacko Boban. This movie was remake of Hindi classic hit, Yes Boss, where Meenakshi reprised the role played by Juhi Chawla. Same year Ponmudipuzhayorathu was also released. “Oru chiri kandaal” was one of the top songs of Malayalam in the year 2005. Later she faded away from screen.
