Mayoori Biography

Mayoori, also known as Shalini was a popular Malayalam film actress better known for the role of lady ghost in Malayalam horror thriller, Akasha Ganga (1999). She has also worked in a few Tamil and Kannada films in a short career span of about 6 years. Summer in Bethlahem (1998) was her debut movie, in which she played the role of one among the 5 cousin sisters, from whom lead actor Jayaram searches for his bride. But Akasha Ganga released the following year was the real career breakthrough, the role for which she is remembered till now. She has played supporting roles in Prem Pujari, Summer palace, Chandamama and Arayannangalude veedu (2000) – her last Malayalam movie. Later She played lead role in Bharya Veettil Paramasuham opposite Vijayaraghavan. She committed suicide in 2005 at the age of 22.  

Mayoori has also done a few noted roles in Tamil movies during early 2000’s. She played supporting roles in movies like Whistle, Manmadan, 7G Rainbow Colony, Kana kandein, Kumbakonam Gopalu and Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan. She has also appeared in a couple of Kannada movies – Sarvabowma and Neela. Kana Kandaen (2005) was her last released movie.

Mayoori hanged herself at her residence in Anna Nagar, Chennai and committed suicide in 2005. Later the family reported that as she was ailing from stomach pain, she has been taking medicines for a few days. The suicide note in the name of her brother was also found, in which she stated that no one is responsible for her death and that she is committing suicide as she has lost faith in life. She hanged herself when no one was at home. She was only 22 then.
