Madhupal Biography

Madhupal is an actor, screen writer and director of Malayalam movies.  He has also published a few books as a writer. His short stories are very popular. Madhupal made his acting debut through Kashmeeram in 1994 in negative role. Then he became a popular character artist of Malayalam doing Mohanlal movies like Guru, Thacholi Varghese Chekavar and Mantrikan. As a director he debut with Thalappaavu in 2008 which won many state and national awards. His second movie as a director was ‘Ozhimuri’ which won both Kerala state and National awards. As an actor, other notable roles of his career include - Swapna Lokathe Balabhaskaran, Kilukil Pambaram, Agni sakshi, Susanna, Samantharangal, Pallavoor Devanarayanan, dada sahib, Manasinakkare, Kanmashi, Ravana prabhu, Mark Antony, Mr. Butler, Agni Sakshi, Wanted, Detective, sooryan, Nadhiya Kollappetta Raathri, Twenty 20, Parayan Marannathu, Aayirathil oruvan and Little master. He has acted in about 100 films in Malayalam, Tamil, English and Hindi.

Madhupal is a native of Kozhikode. His father was running a cinema theatre and hence he has been associated with cinema from his early childhood. He started his career in films as an assistant director of many film makers of Malayalam like Bharath Gopi and Rajiv Anchal. While he worked for Rajiv Anchal’s movie Guru in supporting role, he assisted the director as well. Guru was India’s official entry to Oscar awards in 1997. He has also assisted him in ‘Made in USA’ where Madhavan played the lead role.

Madhupal’s entry to directorial venture was a big success. He won best critical acclamation for both his movies. His debut movie Thalappavu won numerous awards including - Best Debut Director 2008 Kerala State Government, Best Director 2008 Kerala Film Critics Award, Best Director Sohan Antony Memorial Award, Best Debut Director Jesy Foundation Award and Best Debut Director ALA Award. In 2012, he won Kerala state government’s Best serial Award for Direction for Daivaththinu swantham Devootty. He has also won Best Director 2001 Kerala Film Critics Award for TV serial Aakaasaththile paravakal and Malayalam Television Viewers Association Award.

As a writer his published books are Ee Jeevitham Jeevichu Theerkkunnathu, Hebrewil Oru Premalekhanam, kadal oru nathiyude kathhayaanu, Facebook and Pranayinikalude uthyaanavum kumbasaarakoodum.
