M. Arunachalam (businessman) Biography

M. Arunachalam is an Indian businessman, Hong Kong based. He is of Tamil Nadu origin, and was a banker with Indian Overseas Bank in India before he moved to Hong Kong and settled in 1977. Arunachalam is a British citizen and also a permanent resident of Hong Kong. He is also a PIO (Person of Indian origin) card holder. Earlier worked with a consultancy in Hong Kong, he started his own business in 1985. His company A R International deals in leather garments and textiles. Currently he is a very successful businessman. In 2005, he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award for his achievements as a businessman outside India.

He was born in 1949. His early days were spent in Tamil Nadu, where he was born. He completed his education in Trichy. His hobbies include reading, yoga and listening to Indian classical music. He is married, and has two sons and a daughter. started off his career as a banker in India, he moved to Hong Kong in the 1970s and started working there as a financial consultant before he turned an entrepreneur and businessman in 1985. He has been living in Hong Kong for over 35 years. Initially he traded with with Indonesia and India, and slowly he expanded his activities to other countries.

He currently serves as the chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong. Arunachalam comes to India frequently to visit his family members as well as take stock of his business interests. He runs an engineering division in Ahmedabad and a few textile mills in India, including one in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. His company has manufacturing units in the Chinese cities, Beijing and Shanghai as well.
