Lathika Biography 
Lathika is a south Indian playback singer who has sung less number of songs. She was concentrated in singing for films during 1980’s and early 1990’s. Though the number of songs is a few, her songs surely hold her distinct signature. She has lent her voice mainly for Malayalam and Tamil film songs for over 300 films. She has given such memorable hits working aside great Malayalam film director, Bharathan. It’s true she couldn’t remain in mainstream of singing industry aside big stars like Janaki, Chitra and Sujatha. Now she is a lecturer in music at the Swati Tirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram.
Her top songs belong to Malayalam 1980’s and a few need special mention. Title track of Kathodu kathoram, ‘Pon Pularoli…' of Ithiri poove chuvanna poove, Pulare Poonthonilyil of Amaram, Thaarum thalirum of Chilampu, Dum dum dum of Vaisali, Padam Njan… of Rajavinte Makan, Oru Nimisham of Sarvakalasaala, Nilaavinte poomgavil of Sreekrishna parunthu and Melle melle of Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam are evergreen hits of Malayalam 1980’s.
Her debut to singing field happened with a Malayalam duet aside Yesudas. "Pushpathalpathin.." of Abhinandam composed by Kannur Rajan was released in 1976. Over the years, she regards Yesudas as her mentor. She was a star on the ganamela circuit in and around Kollam and Tamil Nadu before entering playback singing field. She sang the song, ‘Varnangal Gandhangal...' for ‘Chamaram' (1980). Yet it was Ithiri poove chuvanna poove that brought her to limelight. During that time, Janaki was the ruling star of the industry and the music director wanted a female singer’s voice to sing a few lines. Thus Lathika got her first major break in the industry. Her name was suggested by Raveendran.
Thus she had a good start in singing industry. After a few memorable songs, Othiri othiri of Vengalam released in 1991 happened to be her last song. She has sung in the debut movies of leading music directors of the industry like Ravindran Master (‘Choola'), Ouseppachan (‘Kathodu Kathoram') and S.P. Venkatesh (‘Rajavinte Makan') and is quite lucky to them.
