Kurian John Melamparambil Biography 
Kurian John Melamparambil is a businessman, industrialist and philanthropist from Kerala. He is the founder of Melam Group Of Companies, best known for condiments and other food products and the Melam Foundation. He is a generous person who ventured into business so that he can help poor and needy, through the money he earns through business. Kurian has already provided free medical treatment to over 1.54K poor patients through 1050 hospitals. As a reward to his social services, Government of India honoured him with the fourth highest civilian honour - Padma Shri in 2010.
Dr. Kurian John Melamparambil was born on 14 May 1954 in Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala state. M.V John (Kunju Kunju) and Leelamma are his parents. He was born into a business family known as 'Melamparambil'. He did his schooling at M.G.M High School, Tiruvalla. Later he continued studies from Mar Thoma College (pre-degree) and from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram (graduation). He also took Post Graduate Degree in social work from Indore School of Social Work, Indore.
After studies he started his career in the media firm, Malayala Manorama at Kochi. His father died due to a Cardiac Arrest, and because of financial troubles, who couldn’t provide timely treatment facilities for his father, which made him think about the purpose of human life and how to help others in the time of need. His father was a friend and guiding figure for him, and his sudden death disturbed him a lot.
On 10 September 1986, he started the Melamparambil Varghese John Memorial Charities,named after his father, and he does all his charity activities under this wing. He set apart 10% of his salary and contributions from his friends and well-wishers for this purpose. He ventured into the business scenario to generate resources for humanitarian work. He has been honoured by different organizations over the years. He received Times of India Excellence in Business Award in 2009.
