Asha Sachdev Biography

Asha Sachdev is a former Bollywood actress, best known for 1977 thriller movie, Agent Vinod. She played lead role opposite Mahendra Sandhu and supporting cast included Jagdeep, Rehana Sultan and Nazir Hussain. The movie was a major hit and Mahendra Sandhu and she became a hot pair. However a misunderstanding occurred between these two and they refused to work with each other. But years later, both the actors regret for what they have done over pity things. Ek Hi Raasta too was her noted work where she worked with Jeetendra and Shabana Azmi. Shabana Azmi played second heroine roe in this movie.

Though she started her career doing lead roles, later on she moved to supporting roles. She also acted in Basu Chatterjee’ Priyatama which earned her Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for the year. She played Dolly’s friend’s role in this movie. She played character artist’s role during 1970’s and later. She has also appeared in vamp roles as well as item numbers during 1970’s. Navin Nishchol-Rekha star thriller Woh Main Nahin released in 1974 was her break to glamorous roles where she appeared in a bold dress.

She landed to film industry at a young age of only 14. She was studying at school when she insisted Roshan Taneja to join his acting school. Though he discouraged her first as she was too young, he finally agreed. She was to debut silver screen with Mahesh Bhatt’s Manzilen Aur Bhi Hain opposite Kabir Bedi. But she couldn’t sign it due to non-availability of dates. She made her film debut in 1972 through B-grade movie, Bindiya Aur Bandook. The movie was a hit. But as she began her career with a B-grade movie, she didn’t get film offers from leading filmmakers of Bollywood.

Double Cross, under the Navketan banner was her real break to Bollywood where she worked aside Vijay Anand. But the movie flopped. She was supposed to be launched in a film called Ek Ladki Bholi Bhali Is. But the movie got shelved. Later success of Agent Vinod gave her major break to Bollywood, though she couldn’t build up a successful career from there on. She is unmarried.
