Ahmed Khan Biography

Ahmed Khan is most popular as a choreographer who has choreographed many of A. R. Rahman hits like Shakalaka baby of Muthalvan/Nayak and songs of Taal. He debut as a Bollywood director through Lakeer – Forbidden lines, in 2002, using Rahman’s tunes of movie Rhythm. The movie had John Abraham, Sunny Deol, Nauheed Cyrusi, Sunil Shetty and Sohail Khan in the lead roles. He has also directed Bollywood movies like Fool n Final, a comedy with Sunny Deol and Shahid Kapoor, though was not successful as a director in both these movies. He has also appeared dancing aside Sushmita Sen in the song steps of Shakalaka.

He is a childhood friend of actor Shahid Kapoor with whom he has worked in many movies as a choreographer. Script of Shahid Kapoor’s movie Patsaala was also scripted by Ahmed Khan. As a childhood actor, Ahmed has acted as one among the adopted orphans of Anil Kapoor’s group and now he will join with the same team to work in its sequel that may release next year or so. As a successful choreographer, his most successful films are Rangeela, Nayak, Taal and Ghajani, thus becoming one of the leading choreographers of Rahman’s songs. He has won Filmfare awards for choreographing the super hit song pictured on Urmila – Rangeela re, which proved to be the turning point of many film fraternities including the actress and music composer.  

Ahmed’s father was a horse racing jockey. Thus the family had acquaintance with many horse lovers of Bollywood like Mehmood Bhaijaan, Feroz Khan and Shekhar Kapoor. In one such occasions of family visit, Shekhar Kapoor offered him a role in Mr.India as child artist. He also appeared in ‘Aaj Ke Angaarey’ and Aamir Khan starrer ‘Raakh’. But his real passion was dance and he became the assistant of choreographer Saroj Khan. Later through Rangeela he became a solo choreographer, choreographing the remaining songs done by Saroj Khan. The rest is just history. Now he is one of the most sought choreographers of the industry. He has done 12 movies for Yash Chopra.

A few of his hits are Rangeela re of Rangeela, Bachna Ae Haseeno Title Song, Title track of Kismat Connection, Tu Jaane Na of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Dhan Te Nan of Kaminey.
