Lal Mahal is one of the famous monuments of Pune and was established in 1630 AD by Shahaji Bhonsle for his wife and son. It was here that Shivaji spent his younger years and his marriage with Saibai took place at this palace. When he captured Torna Fort in 1645, he abandoned the fort and in 17th century, Lal Mahal started ruining. The Lal Mahal is popular for the encounter between Shivaji and Shaista Khan. The remnants of Shivaji including a collection of paintings, statue of Rajmata Jijabai, carving as through Shivaji is using a gold plough and a model of Raigad with horsemen made of fiber are found in this palace. The garden has been converted into the recreational park.
