Nilgiri Mountain Railway was launched in 1891 by British and completed in 1908. It was made as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2005. The steam locomotives were operated on the narrow gauge lines which later replaced by diesel engines. The track covers a distance of 42 kilometers with 108 curves, 16 tunnels and 250 bridges.

 

It starts from Mettupalayam and proceeds through Kallar, Adderly, Hillgrove, Kateri Road, Coonor, Wellington, Aruvankadu, Ketti and Lovedale and finally reaches Ooty. All along the way, the scenic beauty of nature appeals to your eyes making the journey a good adventure
