Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is one of the oldest churches of India and is one of the eight Basilicas of the country. This is a very impressive church with historic significance and noted for its architectural and artistic grandeur. It was originally built by Portuguese in 1558 and later was demolished and reconstructed by British in 1887 in gothic style. The cathedral was consecrated on 19^th November 1905 by Bishop Dom Sebastiao Jose Pereira. The frescos and the murals of the columns and the large canvas paintings related to the life of Christ and the artistic stained glass windows add glamour to the church.
