Allen Forest Zoo is also known as Kanpur Zoo and is the largest open green space in Kanpur and serves as a natural habitat of fauna. It is one of the very few zoos in India that was created amidst natural forests. There is a natural lake within it and it encompasses large area of land that this is the largest zoo in Asia by the area.

The zoo was created by the botanist Sir Allen who wanted to open the zoo in the natural forest. However he could not fulfill his aim and the zoo was later opened in 1971 and was named after him. There are many mammals in the zoo namely Asian tigers, hyena, black bear, grizzly bear, sloth bear, monkeys, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, must deer, antelope and deer.

There is a botanical garden in its premises that has rare collection of plants. The zoo serves as the popular picnic spot and near the lake the visitors are fascinated to see hundreds of deer grazing in open. The aviary here has many species of birds including ostrich, emu, parrots, parakeets and European fowl. There is an aquarium and house for nocturnal animals. The sculptures of pre-historic dinosaurs are seen within it.
