The various means of local transportation in Kanpur are city buses, auto rickshaws, cycle rickshaws, cars and taxis. The buses are run by the UPSRTC that come under JNNURM. The low floor city buses are slightly expensive but they offer comfortable journey. Apart from them, non-AC low floor buses and mini buses are also available.

The auto rickshaws and the tempos called Vikram are the cheapest modes of transport. They charge fixed rate and ten people can travel in Vikram at a time. Bargaining is common with auto rickshaws. The cycle rickshaws are used for short distance travels. The cars and taxis could be booked online or ask the hotels to make arrangements or could be hired at Canal Road Taxi Stand.
