Mettur is a small town which has the Stanley Reservoir built across the River Cauvery and can store more than 90 TMC of water. The dam spreads over 40 square miles and there is a Hydro Electrical Power Project located here. The Mettur Dam Park is a big and nice park and a good place to spend weekends.

The park has numerous swings, many fountains, pergolas and gazebos, all made colorful to attract kids. There is a mini zoo within the park that has deer, snakes and some rare birds. There is also a small aquarium that has turtle and colorful fish varieties. Roasted fish are sold in and around the park. There is a pathway leading to the dam and the steps are constructed to get down easily. This place is good for swimming to escape from the summer heat. The park is open from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. and all the buses to Mettur stop there.
