Yuvaraj Dhayalan Biography

Yuvaraj Dhayalan is a young film director associated with Tamil cinema who directs comedy films. He made his directorial debut at a very young age of 22, one of the youngest film directors of the industry at that time. Of the three movies he directed till now, two of them - Tenaliraman and Eli starred the comedian Vadivelu in the lead role and both were comedy entertainers. His debut film Potta Potti too was a comedy sports drama featuring cricketer Sadagoppan Ramesh along with a few newcomers. The movie inspired by ‘Lagaan’ received positive response from critics and was a moderate hit at box office.

Yuvaraj Dhayalan was born on 22 February 1987 in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. During his 11^th standard he was a part of a play and received a loud noise of applause which later acted as a catalyst for his film scene. Later he got chance to teach a few students and also to direct plays. He joined Visual Communication at Loyola only because one of his friends played prank on him. He told him that Yuvraj’s school lover is studying at Loyola and Yuvaraj joined there solely to meet her. But he started watching movies at that time and after studies, he decided that direction is his field.

He started off as an assistant director under M. Raja for his Tamil film Santosh Subramaniam, followed by Chimbu Deven for Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam. He made his directorial debut with the cricket comedy film Potta Potti, which was well appreciated by critics. He took a break of 18 months after his debut film. It was followed by Tenaliraman starring Vadivelu in the lead role. Though the movie received average response from critics it was a box office hit. The success duo Yuvaraj Dhayalan-Vadivelu teamed up once again for ‘Eli’, set in the 1960s which received negative response from critics.
