Yunus Parvez Biography

Yunus Parvez was a character artist of Bollywood in the 1960s to 2000s, who portrayed numerous comic roles as well. He also played a crooked fellow role in many movies. Spending more than 4 decades in the industry, he has portrayed more than 200 character roles onscreen. He passed away on 11 February 2007 aged 75. He had been suffering from acute diabetes since a long time. Zanjeer, Shaan, Golmaal, Deewar, Trishul, Angoor, Mohra, Mr. India, Tridev and Saajan are some of his memorable roles.

He has appeared in numerous action movies of Amitabh Bachchan in the 1970s. He played the momentous role of Rahim Chacha in Deewar, the movie which gave stardom to Big B. He also shared screen space with Amitabh in Zanjeer, probably the first role where he got noticed. He played the role of 'Head Engineer' of the mines in Kaala pathar, crooked hotel owner in Shaan and Bhandari in Trisul. He played the role of a poet in classic comedy ‘Golmaal’,

Yunus was associated with Bollywood cinema since mid 1960s. Kan Kan Men Bhagwan, Bharat Milap, Pinjre ki panchi, Saheli, Bambai Raat Ki Bahon Mein and Haseena man jaayegi are some of his early movies, though his roles were less-significant.  He gained attention with early 1970s and shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in a few. Zanjeer was probably the first role noticed and he shared screen space with Big B and Iftekhar. He played the role of a constable in this movie.

Over years, he got tied to similar type of character roles. Newspaper editor of Mohra, Anees - Editor of Saajan (1991), Sapru as a gem-cutter in Angoor, Maniklal – the landlord in Mr. India and the film director in Tridev are his memorable roles.
