Vipin Vijay Biography

Vipin Vijay is a film director and screenwriter from Kannur, Kerala who has won many awards. He completed graduation in film making from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata and is known for making films on contemporary themes. He received "The Sanskriti Award" in 2007. He also works on documentary films.  His film, Chavunilam, won the Incredible India award for the best project in development at the IFFI film bazaar. He has also done a documentary on filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. His diploma film, feature films and short films have been screened at IFFK and he has done a signature film for it too.

 

He was born in Kannur and brought up in Kozhikode, where he completed schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya. Vipin graduated from St. Joseph's College, Devagiri in 1999 and joined SRFTI, Kolkata to study film making. His diploma film titled - Unmathabudham Jagath won the Kodak, International film school competition, 2002 and it was cited by critics as one among the 10 best experimental Indian films ever made. The short film was screened at various international film festivals as well. Kshurasyadhara – his first documentary film was screened at IFFR 2002 and also won the best Malayalam film commendation award 2001. His next documentary film titled Hawamahal was also screened at IFFR.

 

"Video Game" (2006) and "A perfumed Garden" (2009) are other short films of Vijay. His documentary works include - "Poomaram", "Feet upon the ground" and “Vishaparvam”. He made a one minute signature film named "Broken glass, torn film" for the International Film Festival of Kerala in 2007. Chitrasutram is his first feature film.
