Vinay Virmani Biography

Vinay Virmani is a Canadian actor and screenwriter of Indian origin. He was born to Punjabi parents in Toronto and has been raised there. He scripted and acted in Breakaway (2011), released in English, Hindi and Punjabi languages. The movie also marked his acting debut. However the movie opened to negative reviews. The movie was co-produced by Akshay Kumar and also starred Camilla Belle, Rob Lowe, Anupam Kher and Russell Peters. Dr. Cabbie (2014) and The Steps (2016) are his other releases, where he handled the roles of actor and screenwriter. With 2016 release The Steps, he ventured into film production as well. The movie was premiered at TIFF in 2015.

 

Vinay was born on January 24, 1985 in Brampton, Ontario. His father is anIndo-Canadian businessman and film producer. Vinay studied at Second City School in Toronto and graduated from York University. He was first seen in a Canadian short film in 2008. He got actively involved with film scene in the early 2010s. He made his debut as an actor and screenwriter through the sports film – Breakaway, based on Hockey. He was seen in a supporting role in 2013 Bollywood film David, starring south Indian star Vikram.

 

His debut film Breakaway was co-produced by Akshay Kumar. It was Khiladi’s first international film as a film producer. It told the story of a Punjabi boy who wants to play ice hockey and how he convinces his family. Vinay’s second film Dr. Cabbie was co-produced by Salman Khan. Dr. Cabbie became the second highest-grossing film in Canada in 2014. He played the title role of Deepak in this commercial hit. It was a romantic comedy film which received generally positive responses from critics.
