Vijilesh Karayad Biography

Vijilesh Karayad is a noted film actor associated with Malayalam cinema. He is best known for playing character and antagonist roles. He played the role of villain in the recent hit, Varathan, starring Fahadh Fasil. The talented actor doesn’t want to fall as prey to stereotype villain and character roles of yesterdays, and loves to play it different every time onscreen. He received his first break to silver screen through Dileesh Pothan’s Maheshinte Prathikaaram, where he played a supporting role.

Vijilesh Karayad completed his Master’s degree in drama & theatre studies from Kaladi Sreesankara University before he forayed to films. Since young he loved theatre. After studies he joined theatre, and in association with his friend Rajeesh he has done some hit plays such as Jileebi and Kannadi in the past. Both these plays have been staged for more than 1000 times, and hence became successful. The experience in theater came in handy, when he played the remarkable role of Vijilesh in his debut flick, Maheshinte Prathikaaram. In fact the critically acclaimed movie marked the acting debut of a bunch of actors to silver screen, belonging to different ages. He knew the director Dileesh Pothan since his college days at Kalady, where Dileesh too was a student.

His signature facial expression and shy face for the debut flick, Maheshinte Prathikaaram is memorable. After that he has done over a dozen of Malayalam films in the past three years which include Varathan, Theevandi etc. The actor shines in antagonist and negative shaded roles. His role in Varathan was challenging. Though he is currently accepting film projects, theatre always remains his first love.
