Vijay Maurya Biography

Vijay Maurya is an Indian actor and director associated with Bollywood and Marathi cinema. He also writes film scripts. He is an accomplished theater artist who worked with Prithvi theatre for 15 years as an actor. He has been associated with Bollywood since late 1990s playing brief roles for Ram Gopal Varma’s movies. He turned a screenwriter and dialogue writer with 2010 film, Striker and has also co-scripted National award winning movie, Chillar Party. He also wrote its dialogues. In 2016 he marked his debut as a film director with Photocopy. Earlier he has directed over a 150 commercials, and has good experience in this medium.

He was born on 1 September 1972 in Mumbai. He spent his childhood and younger days in Mumbai itself, where he completed his education. Vijay’s first stint to entertainment is theatre. He attended an acting workshop of Satyadev Dubey, and has served as a long term member of the famous Prithvi theatre. He has appeared in many stage plays of Prithvi theatre during the period, 1993–2008. Became a part of 14 original plays, Vijay has performed for more than 2500 shows during this period. Makrand Deshpande, Sudhir Pandey, Kay Kay Menon and Sanjna Kapoor are among the leading theater personalities with whom he has been associated with.   

As a stage actor he is best known for the plays, Sa Hi Besura, Solah Saal Ka Aakash, Meena Kumari, Airawat, Jungle Ke Paar, Laila etc. He has been associated with both mainstream and art films of Bollywood. Satya and Mast are among his early releases. As an actor he was most recently seen in the movies, Bhoothnath Returns, Tendulkar Out etc. In 2015 he wrote dialogues and lyrics of the adult comedy, Hunterrr. The movie was a major success at box office and received positive response from critics as well.
