Vijay Kumar (tamil Filmmaker) Biography

Vijay Kumar is a filmmaker, director and producer associated with Tamil cinema. He is also known in the industry as an actor and story teller. A budding and talented director associated with Tamil cinema in the recent times, he marked his directorial debut with 2016 critically acclaimed political thriller Uriyadi. The film story set in the 1990s received rave reviews from critics and has been marked as one of the best political thrillers ever made in Tamil cinema. The movie also helped him to earn multiple film actors in best debut director category, apart from earning Tamil Nadu Murpoku Ezhuthalar Kalaingargal Sangam Film Awards, Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards etc.

Vijay hails from Chennai where he was brought up. After completing his IT engineering course from Salem, he worked in the software field with many reputed companies like Infosys, IBM etc for more than 1 decade before he called it quit, to pursue a career in film field. While associated with software field, in the spare time he used to view and analyze movies. Slowly his hobby changed to passion, and decided to switch the field. He was working with Infosys when he finally called it quit in the year 2010, and start writing script for his debut film.

He started off with short films, and made his first short film, and submitted for the first season of Nalaya Iyakunar show in 2009. He got selected and he screened two more short films. But in the middle of the contest, he had to quit.  He quit the job and moved to the United States in 2010 where he began screen writing of the political thriller. He made a lot of preparations before the movie was finally shot in 2016. He moved back to India only in 2013 after he finished screen writing. By that time he started his production house Souvenir Productions, and also gave workshops to the selected actors who were mostly debutants. The film released in 2016 received an overwhelming response from critics and was hailed by media as one of the best Tamil political thrillers.
