Vijay Kumar (british Filmmaker) Biography

Vijay Kumar is a filmmaker and actor, associated with Hindi entertainment industry, both Bollywood and television. His shows on BBC and Asian Sound Radio have made him an immensely popular artist since early 2000s. He has been associated with theater during his early phase of entertainment career, before he switched on to films. As a television actor, he is best remembered for playing a comic character in the 1990s iconic comedy series on Doordarshan, Dekh Bhai Dekh, a sitcom quite popular those days. He appeared in brief character roles in Bollywood movies such as Gangster, Main Solah Baras Ki, Master, King of Bollywood and Love U Mr Kalakaar. He has done more than 5 short films since 2003 and many of them have been screened at various international film festivals and earned him critical acclaim.

 

He was born in New Delhi and currently settled in UK with British citizenship. Spending his early days in the capital city, he moved to England to continue his studies at Cowley High Grammar School in St Helens. During those days he was determined to become an Aeronautics Engineer, though he owned passion towards acting. Yet destiny was something else, and he started his acting career and later moved to direction and screenwriting also, where he earned success.

 

As an actor he was first seen in 1988 Rohitasha Movies, Roti Ki Keemat in a brief role. In 1990, he got opportunity to work with legendary Dev Anand for the movie, Sau Crore. But his role got edited off in the final cut. He also auditioned for many movies during the period, including the lead role of Meine Pyar Kiya, where he managed to reach the final round. He marked his debut with Dev Anand’s Gangster in 1993, which helped him to earn a role for Dekh Bhai Dekh sitcom.

 

Vijay took part in the Met Film School script to screen course in film making, and later started making short films. As a theater artist he began his career with Lokathar Productions, Delhi. Vijay worked with BBC Radio in Merseyside for over ten years as a DJ and a news reader, and presented over 1000 shows including the very popular, Jashn-Bahaar, the Top 20, for Asian Sound Radio for over five years.
