Vidya Sinha Biography

Vidya Sinha is a former actress of Bollywood most famous for movies like Ragnigandha and Choti si baat opposite Amol Palekar. Her other memorable movies include – Pati patni aur woh and Tumhare liye. Apart from Amol Palekar, she has been successfully paired opposite Sanjeev Kumar also of which Tumhare liye and Pati patni aur woh are the most memorable movies. Her other movies include – Pyaara dushman, Saboot, Inkaar Jeevan Mukh and Mukthi. She has worked with almost all leading actors during late 70s and early 80s that include both commercial artists and art cinema actors. She has worked with Rajesh Khanna, Rakesh Roshan, Navin Nischal, Shashi kapoor, Vinod Mehra and Girish Karnad during this time.

She is also been featured in many hit songs of Lata Mangeshkar like – Tumhe dekhti hoon to ladtha hai jaise, Na jaane kyon hota hai zindagi ke saath and Rajnigandha phool tumhare. She has also become a part of many hit songs of Amol Palekar-Yesudas songs like Dil ke tukde. She is always remembered for a special category of cinemas where theatre artists work most, though they can be categorized under commercial movies too. She is always remembered for her fresh and next door girl look. Though she is always seen in serious roles, cladded in saris, through the comic flick ‘Pati patni aur woh’ opposite Sanjeev Kumar, she proved herself to be a successful comedian too.

Sinha was born on 15 November 1947 in Mumbai as the daughter of assistant director - S. Maan Singh. She began modeling and acting at the age of 18. She was married to Venkateshwaran Iyer in 1968 and after a daughter was born to them in the year 1971, she stepped into movies with family’s support. Her debut movie was Raja Kaka opposite Kiran Kumar. However she was first noticed for low budget movie – Rajnigandha directed by Basu Chatterjee. After that she did a series of movies of this type, yet she is remembered always as a traditional girl.

Now she is busy with television serials and her popular serials include - Kkavyanjali, Kubool hai, Zaara and Neem neem shahad shahad.
