Vettoor Purushan Biography

Vettoor Purushan was a veteran actor associated with Malayalam cinema, known for his comic roles. He predominantly worked in 1980s movies. Loose Loose Arappiri Loose (1988), Athbhutha Dweepu (2005) and Itha Innu Muthal (1984) are some of his noted roles. He was a talented actor who overcame his dwarfness through his acting skills, mostly as a comedian. He was last seen in 2005 film Athbhutha Dweepu, directed by Vinayan where he played the pivot role of Rajguru, the movie which featured more than a hundred dwarfs as a part of the screenplay. Vettoor Purushan passed away on November 5, 2017 at the age of 70 suffering from heart problems. The actor acted in more than 100 films.

Vettoor Purushan was born in Vettiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram as the third son of Panavila Veetil Govindan and Janaki. He had 4 siblings. He reached Malayalam movies in the early 1970s. He got noticed first through the movie, Nadeenadanmaare Aavashyamund. Naradan Keralathil, Pickpocket, Kaavadiyaattam, My Dear Kuttichathan etc are some of his noted roles. He was a regular actor throughout 1980s, though he played comic brief roles most. He appeared in around 100 movies. It can be said that directors exploited his comic acting skills most. He appeared in a serious role, Rajguru in his last film Athbhutha Dweepu, released in 2005, the movie which told the story of a mysterious island where all men are dwarfs and women are normal.

After he took a break from films, he appeared in a few television serials. He was also active in social life for some time. He served as a Panchayat member of Vettoor Panchayath for a 5-year term. Last year he got dog bites and got severely injured. After that his health condition worsened also. He was also suffering from age-related and life style related diseases. He has been residing in Palode for the last few years. He passed away on November 5, 2017, and was survived with his wife Thilaka.
