Vetri (cinematographer) Biography

Vetri is an Indian cinematographer who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He is the son of well-known politician, N. S. Palanisamy. Vetri is popular for his lens work in films like 'Vengai' and 'Vedalam'. He is also an agriculturist and farmer, who runs an organisation for farmers named as 'Yermunai'. He has received applause from cine industry for his support for the cause of farmers. He gained recognition from Tamil film industry through the works -  Souryam, Muni 2: Kanchana,Veeram, Vedalam etc, and has worked with many leading directors and actors of the industry. He is also known for his association with Ajith films as an independent cinematographer in the recent times - Veeram(2014), Vedalam(2015) and Vivegam(2017) to name a few.

His full name is   Vetri Palanisamy. He hails from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He took Diploma in film Technology in Cinematography from Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, after which he joined film industry as an assistant cameraman under S. Saravanan. He worked as an assistant in the industry in the second half of 1990s till mid-2000s, and Aahaa, Auto Driver, Sangamam, Oruvan, Vallarasu, Maayi etc are some of his works where he worked under S. Saravanan. As an independent cinematographer he got his first break through 2007 film Agaram directed by T. Nagarajan.

Since then he worked in many Telugu and Tamil films. Souryam was his debut Telugu movie released in 2008. Thenavattu, Maasilamani, Sankham, Venghai etc are some of his early works. The horror film, Muni 2: Kanchana (2011) gave him a major break in Tamil film industry and the film was successful. After that there was no turning back, and he went on to sign for big banners in south Indian cinema.
