Vasuki Bhaskar Biography

Vasuki Bhaskar is a fashion and costume designer, best known for her association with Tamil film industry. She is the only daughter of film producer R. D. Bhaskar, brother of music composer Illayaraja. Thus Vasuki is the niece of this legendary composer. Many of her cousins are associated with Tamil film industry, most notably, music composers - Premji Amaren, Karthik Raja & Yuvan Shankar Raja, film director Venkat Prabhu and singer Bhavatharini. Her siblings too had brief career in film field.

Vasuki Bhaskar hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, born into a family with deep relations to music, art and films. Her father R. D. Bhaskar was a film producer, while her paternal uncle Illayaraja – the legendery music composer. Her brother Parthi Bhaskar is a film director, while the second brother Hari Bhaskar is an actor and singer. Many of her cousins are associated with music, and works in film industry. Yet Vasuki’s career choice is entirely different, and she is into the field of fashion, who currently works as a fashion and costume designer in the industry.

She completed a designing course at Loyola College. Then her first offer was received from Director Bharathiraja to design costumes for his film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei in 2004. Then she worked a costume designer for her cousin Venkat Prabhu’s film, Chennai 600028, Saroja etc. Her work for 2010 thriller, Naanayam was well appreciated, for which she gave complete makeover for its artists, Prasanna and Sibi Raj. She has done more than 50 Tamil films as a costume designer, and has also done one English film, Anything for You. She also designs costumes for TV shows and ads.
