Varuna Shetty Biography

Varuna Shetty is a south Indian actress who appears in Tamil, Tulu and Malayalam films. She made her film debut with 2014 Tulu film, Nirel directed by Ranjith Bajpe, where she played female lead opposite Anoop Sagar. The movie was well appreciated by critics. Later she played female lead in Malayalam –Tamil bilingual Sand City (Manal Naharam) in 2015. She also played female lead in 2015 Malayalam film – Rasam opposite Indrajith Sukumaran, where Mohanlal appeared in a cameo role.

Varuna Shetty was born and brought up in Dubai, where she completed her studies. She schooled at "Our Own Indian High School" and later completed Master’s in business application from Manipal University, Dubai. She is an accomplished artist and dancer from Dubai. She got her debut film, Nirel through an audition held at Dubai. The movie had an ensemble cast of young actors - Anoop Sagar, Varuna Shetty, Deepthi, Sachin Padil and Deepak Paladka, and completely shot at Gulf region. The film was scripted by Karthik Gowda and it took more than one year to complete the movie.

Very soon she received offers from Malayalam and Tamil film industry and appeared in one Malayalam movie – Rasam and a bilingual, directed by Shankar Panicker and she played female lead in both these movies. Her debut Malayalam flick Rasam was set in the backdrop of a Malayalee marriage that happens in Dubai and food formed the central character in the film. She played Devan’s daughter in the movie, directed by National award winning filmmaker Rajeev Nath. The film was mostly shot in Qatar and Dubai, where she is settled. Most of her movies have been shot in Middle East till now.
