V. Manikandan Biography

V. Manikandan is a successful cinematographer associated with south Indian films and Bollywood. He works in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi movies, and he shot to fame after the super success of Anniyan starring Vikram in 2005. The movie helped him to bag Filmfare Best Cinematographer award. He was nominated for Best Cinematography award at Asia Pacific Cine Awards(ASPA) for his work in Raavanan/Raavan in 2010 and won the same of its Hindi version at Apsara Awards. He owns a very successful career in ad industry with more than 3000 ad films to his credit.

V. Manikandan was born on 13 January 1968 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. His elder brother V. Jeevananthan is an artist and writer who won national award for his Tamil book on cinema titled 'Thiraicheelai' at the National film Awards 2010. V. Manikandan was fully active in ad field before joined films. He joined film industry with Atharmam (Tamil) in 1994. Since then he has spent nearly 25 years in the industry. Throughout 1990s he worked in Tamil films with limited success, and his 1990s releases include Sarigamapadani, Sengottai, Pennin Manathai Thottu and Prabhudeva starrer musical movie, Mr. Romeo.

He marked his Malayalam debut with Asuravamsam in 1997 and marked his Bollywood debut with Kuch Naa Kaho in 2003. In between he did one song for the musical hit Tamil film, Boys. He earned recognition after he did the camera work of Shah Rukh khan starrer super hit film, Mein Hoon Na released in 2004. The movie was helmed by the debutant Farah Khan. He later worked with Farah and SRK for Om Shanti Om, which became a blockbuster. He earned his first Filmfare nomination for the movie. He got associated with Shah Rukh Khan for his production ventures - Billu Barber and Ra.One. Raavan, Khatta Meetha, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are his other major releases in Bollywood.
