Ujjwala Raut is an Indian model who has been credited as the first and most accomplished supermodel of India. She has been the cover girl of many leading fashion magazines like ELLE, Time, L'Officiel Magazine, Tank, and WWD. She has been a ramp model for many leading international brands as well. She has been the popular face of many ad campaigns of Dolce & Gabbana, Gap, H&M, Pianegonda, Roberto Cavalli, etc. Raut was the face of Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics for 2004, the first Indian to bag the assignment. Upcoming young model, Sonali Raut is her younger sister.

She was born and raised in Mumbai and one among 5 sisters. For the same reason being a successful model was never in her dreams. She entered into a modelling contest with her elder sister. Her father is a retired Assistance Commissioner of Police and all the 5 kids were raised by her mother. As her father was a police officer, he was very strict in bringing up his daughters. She schooled at "Vidya Mandir High School" in Dahisar. She was only 17, when she won "Femina Look of the Year" at the Femina Miss India 1996 contest winning many assignments. She was a commerce student at "Gokhale College" in Borivali then. She also managed to reach top 15 in 1996 Elite Model Look contest in Nice.

She married Craig Maxwell in 2004 and took a break from modelling career. After she became mother of a child in 2006, she shed 20 kilos with a lot of hardwork to make her comeback. She did ramp appearances at the Mumbai and Delhi fashion weeks when her baby was only 3 months old. However she got divorced in 2009.
