Tinu Yohannan Biography

Tinu Yohannan is an Indian cricketer from Kerala, who has played test matches and ODI for India in the early 2000s. He is the son of T. C. Yohannan, a long jumper who represented India in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada and a National record holder of three years. He is the first Kerala Ranji player to play Test and one day cricket for India. Currently he also plays first class cricket representing his Kerala team. He is a right-handed fast medium bowler for his team and has played three international test matches for Team India. India's towering pacer faded away quickly and has been dropped from Indian team forever.

This tall seamer was known for generating bounce and bowl at a decent burst of pace. Regarded as a fine pace bowling prospect while playing First class cricket, he struggled for consistency and was out of the scene so quickly. At 2000-01 season during his career peak he took 19 wickets in Ranji Trophy at an impressive average of 24. This outstanding performance gave him the entry to Indian team for the first Test match against England at Mohali in 2001-02. It was followed by India’s tour to West Indies in 2001-02, where he continued to notch up mind blowing performances. In an ODI at Bridgetown, he took 3 wickets giving 33 runs, thus impressing his captain.

But after that he couldn’t maintain the same achievements in international level. In the ODI played at Port of Spain, though he managed to take 2 wickets, his spell against Chris Gayle fell flat. In 2002, he gave worst performance against Sri Lanka in the test series at their home ground. Though India won the match he was dropped from ODI series. His last match was against New Zealand in 2002-03, a Test match at Hamilton where he could manage only a single wicket of Lou Vincent.
