Suresh Raina Biography

Suresh Raina was a well known young cricket star born on 27 November 1986 at Ghaziabad at Uttar Pradesh State. His oodles of talents as a prominent left hand batsman made him spoken of very highly by cricket stars like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid and many others. He is the last child of five siblings. His brothers Dinesh Mukesh and Naresh took their career in academic field and he is only one who choose cricket. He had great liking for the game that even on the day of the wedding of his sister Renu, he was missing from the scene and was playing a Deodhar match at Rajkot against East Zone.

 

Suresh Raina selected cricket as his career in 1999 and moved to Lucknow to attend the government Sports College. He became the captain of U-16 of Uttar Pradesh and when he was selected for the U-19 tour to England he was only fifteen and a half. His Ranji Trophy debut was in February 2003 when he played for Uttar Pradesh against Assam. He was also selected for U-19 Asian ODI Championship conducted in Pakistan and U-19 World Cup 2004. In this series he scored three half centuries. He also took part in Challenger Series in early 2005 and selected for the Indian Oil Cup 2005 conducted in Sri Lanka.

 

He is not only a left-handed batsman but also a renowned fielder known for his ability to hit the stumps standing from the infield. Occasionally he also takes to off spinning. His participation in Indian Premier League is worth mentioning. He represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2008 and from then on he finished three successful seasons. He holds the record of most catches for a non wicket keeper and most runs scored in all IPL matches. He won the man of the match in the final 2010 IPL with 55 not out from 35 balls.

 

A string of failures followed his entry into international career. He was not successful in Test squad as well as ODI series until 2008. After the IPL season in 2008 he entered the international Indian cricket team and took part in the triangular series in Bangladesh. He scored his first century against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup 2008. At that time this was the second fastest century in the history of Indian ODI cricket. In January 2010 Raina was able to score 106 out of 115 balls against Sri Lanka in the final of the triangular ODI series that took place in Bangladesh. He was there on the bench in the first half of the World Cup Cricket 2011. His dream to be a regular member of Indian team is turning true. 

 

2012–13 England tour of India

Raina registered strong performances in this series, which India won 3–2. He scored 277 runs at an average of 92.33 with four consecutive half-centuries but only two of them in a winning cause. He became 13th Indian batsman to cross 4000 international runs, in his 159th ODI and got his first Man of the Series award in this format. At the end of the series, he broke into the ICC top 10 ranked batsmen for the first time in his career.

2014–15 tour of Australia

Suresh has been included into India's test squad after almost two years. Raina was selected in the final Test match at Sydney, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Later on, he announced his return to form in the Tri-Series with a flamboyant 51 against Australia.

2016

Suresh Raina was not selected in India's first tour to USA, where they play West Indies for 2 T20Is. However, he made a reentry to the ODI team for a series against New Zealand. But he was ruled out due to Chikungunya .

2017

He was selected for a T20 series against England. In that series, he made a strong comeback. He scored a 63 in the 3rd T20.
