Thrissur Elsy Biography

Thrissur Elsy is a popular stage actress, character artist and TV actress associated with Malayalam. She was introduced to movies by Ramu Kariat, who spotted her doing a play. As a film actress, she is best known for playing Mukesh’s mother in In Harihar nagar. Mayamadhavam, Velankani Mathavu, Sree Ayappanum Vavarum and Omanathingalpakshi are her noted TV soaps.

She has been associated with both amateur and professional plays since younger days. It was during her college days, just for hobby, she appeared in a college play. Her father supported her and she started doing plays. Vilakuranja Manushyan was her debut amateur play. Her sisters also acted in that play and very soon she regularly appeared in plays. Thoppil Anto, a singer associated with plays was her brother who introduced her to professional theatre. Aathma Bali was her first professional play. She got opportunity to work with many golden stars of theatre in those days and in between she appeared in films.

Shobhana Parameswaran Nair recommended her name to Ramu Kariat for the movie, Ammuvinte aattinkutty in 1978. She played the role of Ammu’s mother in the movie. Earlier too she has briefly worked in a few movies though uncredited, both as child artist and adult.  She has earlier worked as a child artist in Kaalpaadukal (1962). Then she appeared in Agnikshetram (1980), where she played the role of Prem Nazir’s mother. Thus at a very younger age itself, she started doing mother roles only and most often to actors who are older than her. This talented actress says that, though theater gives many good characters to enact on stage, films didn’t give her good roles. She was last seen in Jamna Pyari.

She lost her husband at a younger age and she had one son from this wedlock. Her mother died when she was a child. Her father was proud to see his daughter as a successful actress on stage. The actress recollects that she was not able to see her father during his last days and she even had to go for play on same night her father died.
