T. K. V. Desikachar Biography 
T. K. V. Desikachar was a yoga instructor of modern period, and the son of the legend, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, known as "Father of modern yoga". Following his father’s legacy, he earned fame as a great yoga teacher. His maternal uncle B. K. S. Iyengar too was a prominent figure in the field of yoga in the 20th century, and his daughter Geeta Iyengar too follows the same path. Desikachar lived during the period, 21 June 1938 – 8 August 2016. He taught Viniyoga, as he says, "Viniyoga is not a style of yoga, but an approach to utilizing its tools". He was a pioneer in the field of wellness and yoga therapy.
Tirumalai Krishnamacharya Venkata Desikachar hailed from Mysore of present day Karnataka. He was born on 21 June 1938, as the son of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, one of the prominent yoga instructors all time. He moved to Chennai in the 1960s. Though he owned an engineering graduation, he was inspired by his father, and decided to follow the ‘yoga’ path. He taught yoga extensively in many places throughout 1970s, and also published many books related to this subject, thus popularizing this practice among masses.
He concentrated on the wellness and yoga therapy, and also deeply studied many ancient books to collect information. He also worked 30 years as a teacher. He learned the practice and application of all the tools of Yoga, including chanting, to cure diseases with therapy and evolve spiritually. He developed Viniyoga, drawing many points from his father’s teachings. He founded Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), a yoga therapy clinic and yoga center in Chennai in 1971. Later his son, Dr. Kausthub Desikachar founded the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation (KHYF) in 2006.
