Swami Maheshwarananda Biography

Swami Maheshwarananda is a yogi and religious guru from Pali, Rajasthan. He was born as Mangilal Garg as the son of Pandit Krishna Ramji Garg and Phul Devi Garg in 1945. In his religious path, he has achieved honours and titles such as Vishwaguru, Jagadguru, Mahamandaleshwar, Paramhansa, Dharma Chakravarti etc. He was initiated in the order of swamis in 1967, after which he travelled abroad and founded the Austrian-Indian Yoga-Vedanta fellowship in Vienna and the first Sri Deep Madhavananda Ashram. He is commonly addressed as Swamiji by his followers.

 

Swami Maheshwarananda was born as Mangilal Garg on 15 August 1945 in Rupawas, Pali district, Rajasthan. His father was an astrologist. Garg started meditation at the age of three. His parents followed a spiritual and religious path, which inspired young Garg too. He had 5 siblings. Since young he spent most of his time in prayer and meditation. He lost his father at the age of 12, after which his mother sent him to his uncle. He continuously expressed his desire to become a Sanyasi (monk).

 

After getting permission from his uncle, he followed meditation, strict yogic exercises and fasting. He attained the state of self-realization in 1962 and was initiated in the order of swamis in 1967. Since then he leads the life of a yogi, preaching spirituality, philosophy and religious. He founded the Austrian-Indian Yoga-Vedanta fellowship in Vienna and promoted Indian spiritual concepts abroad in different countries.

 

The guru lineage begins with Sri Alakh Puriji and his spiritual successor was named Sri Mahaprabhuji. Swami Maheshwarananda teaches physical, mental, social and spiritual health, tolerance for all religions, world peace, culture and many more subjects. His books are published in 11 languages.
