M. S. Srinivasan (challakere Brothers) Biography

M. S. Srinivasan is a Carnatic vocalist best known for Vedic chanting. He along with his elder brother M. S. Venugopal forms the famous singing duo - Challakere brothers. Challakere represents their native village, where both belong to. They have also released numerous musical albums of Vedic chanting, and one of the most popular singing duos belonging to this genre of music and spirituality. The brothers are active in this field since year 1992. The duo is quite famous for the chanting of Purushasuktam, Rudram, Chamakam, Shanti mantras, Taitriyam, Upanishads, Mahanyasam and other Vedic chants & suktas, mostly associated with religious ceremonies and customs.

 

M. S. Srinivasan belongs to a Brahmin family in Challakere village of Karnataka. He, along with M. S. Venugopal has been chanting mantras since early childhood, as a part of their religious rituals and customs. The brothers learnt the art of reciting Vedas from their father M. Sampathkumaracharya since childhood days. Later they took advanced learning in Vedas too. They started reciting Vedas in public places since early 1990s, mostly associated with religious ceremonies in temples and other public gatherings.

 

The brothers have been teaching students to chant Veda at Trayee Veda Vidyalaya at Banashankari in Bangalore for more than 25 years. Srinivasan has been teaching Vedic lessons to public since 1992, and it includes both ladies and men. He commenced the first ladies batch on 4th November 1992 with 3 ladies, who should interest in learning. Now he teaches more than 500 people who are able to chant mantras with synchronization. His daughter Shreeraksha is a child prodigy in Vedic chanting, who is also a Vedic teacher now. His wife married him in 1996 on condition that he would teach her Vedic chanting.
