Susant Mishra Biography

Susant Mishra is a national award winning filmmaker from Orissa. He directs Oriya films. In 1993 his debut directorial Oriya film, Indradhanura Chhai received National Film Award – Special Mention (feature film) award. His second film, Biswaprakash won Best regional film awards at the National Film Awards in 2000.This highly acclaimed director has made many movies which received high acclaim. Many of his films have been showcased at international film festivals too. Nischal Badal (1989),    Indradhanur Chaai (1993), Dhenkanal – A Multifaceted Paradise (1995), Samarpanam (1997),    Biswaprakash (1999), Dharini (2002) and Pearls of Wisdom (2003) are his short films/ documentary films/movies up-to-date.

Susant Mishra was born in Cuttack, Orissa. He completed his post-graduation diploma in screenplay writing and direction from the FTII, Pune. As a part of academics, he has made a few films, and got noticed. His diploma film Nischal Badal was screened at the competitive section of Oberhausen Film Festival in Germany. After completing his course from FTII, he turned a full-swing film director directing full length movies. He made his first full-fledged film - Indradhanur Chaai in 1993, which won special jury award at National Film awards.

The movie, Indradhanur Chaai was screened at different international film festivals and won him the Grand Prix at the Sochi International Film Festival in Russia. It was also the official selection in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1995. He made a couple of documentary films later. His second feature film, Biswaprakash won Best Oriya Film in the National Film Awards in 2000, and was screened at different film festivals too. He made Hindi/Oriya bilingual Dharini in 2002. He has done three documentary films till now.
