Suresh Heblikar Biography

Suresh Heblikar is a veteran actor, producer and director associated with Kannada film industry. He is also an active environmentalist who founded the Eco-Watch NGO in the year 1998. He has produced and directed many notable movies in Kannada language mostly in the offbeat genre, which received state and national awards. Kadina Benki won Best Director national award and Usha Kiran the Filmfare award. Aagaatha earned him state awards. Chamathkara (1994), Aagantuka (1985) and Aaghaatha (1994) are among his best works. He has also directed a few documentary films.  Since younger days he was inspired by the environment stories told by his grandfather and that’s how he became a nature lover.

 

He was born in Dharwad, Karnataka in the year 1948. He moved to Bangalore in 1991, where he resided in Jayanagar. He made his debut as an actor in the 1970s and later concentrated on to film direction. He made path breaking movies in Kannada language since late 1970s. During late 1990s, he got active as an environmentalist as well and made several documentaries on this subject. He excelled in both these roles and has also acted in a few movies. Ecology of the Western Ghats, Energy 1984 and Smoking Tuna are among his documentary films made in the 1980s.

 

He has directed more than 30 movies in the past three decades or so. A great lover of nature, his flicks always have depicted nature and its conservation. His Shepherds on the Move has won the prestigious International Osiris Award. The director regards cinema as a powerful medium to express views and give a good message to audience. He always strived to give something different through each of his films. He claims to have a romantic childhood and expresses "passionate romance” in his offbeat film themes.
