Sunil (malayalam Director) Biography

Sunil is a noted film director associated with Malayalam cinema. As a filmmaker, he tried with different genres of filmmaking such as family drama, action, romance and comedy, and received only limited success till now. He made several moderate budget movies and remained quite active in the 1990s and 2000s, and a few of them fared as well. Yet he failed to achieve top director status in Malayalam cinema, despite working with many lead actors of the time. He has also directed TV shows like Snehaveedu. He has also tried singing and a few acting roles, apart from writing screenplays and dialogues.

As a film director he marked his film debut with Priyapetta Kukku in 1992, followed by Gandhari and Manathe Kottaram. These movies fared well at box office. But later he directed many flop movies. He is credited to giving first big break to actor Dileep on big screen through Manathe Kottaram in 1994. Films like Alancheri Thamprakkal, Chantha also got noticed.

The director who was once busy in the 1990s later switched his operation and turned a monk. He restrained himself from popular activities. He even took a new name and started meditation. He took break from the industry in 2003 after directing a string of flopped such as Korappan The Great, Poonilamazha, Red Indians etc. South Indian mega star, Vikram played the lead role in Red Indians. He returned back in 2009, and directed three more flops.

Alancheri Thamprakkal, Chantha, Red Indians, Poonilamazha, Vrudhanmare Sookshikkuka etc are a few more noted works. He worked with actors Suresh Gopi, Babu Antony and Jagadeesh in many movies in 1990s. He introduced the legendary composers of Bollywood Laxmikant-Pyarelal to Malayalam cinema through Poonilamazha, which became popular for its songs.
