Sulakshana Biography

Sulakshana is a south Indian film actress who predominantly worked in Tamil cinema. She worked in all south Indian language movies. Started off with lead roles in 1980s, later she switched on to character roles. She marked her Kannada debut as lead heroine opposite Rajkumar. She is currently active in Tamil television. She did Swagatham, Ezham Suryan, Dabbevariki Chedu, Cheppu, Nyayavidhi, Allulu Vasthunnaru and a lot more movies on big screen later. She is a trained classical dancer and has done diploma in Bharatnatyam.

She started her acting career as a child artist at the age of two and a half. Kavya Thalaivi as little Krishna marked her acting debut. Since then she played child artist roles in south Indian movies and Hindi cinema. K. Viswanath’s Shubhodaya (1980) was her first film in an adult role. She was only 14 when she played lead heroine in this movie. Chandra Mohan played her hero in the film. She has earlier acted with the same actor as his sister, daughter and even brother. For the same reason he used to tease her. The film was a box office hit.

Her second film – Havina Hede (Kannada film) was with Rajkumar. She played female lead opposite matinee idol of south Indian cinema, Rajkumar. A newcomer to the industry then, she learnt a lot of film related things from Rajkumar. In fact the actor himself bought her the first makeup box. Her third film - Thooral Ninnu Pochchu gave her a big break to Tamil screen. She played female lead opposite director-actor K. Bhagyaraj for 1982 Tamil film - Thooral Ninnu Pochchu. Youngsters adored her innocent looks accompanied by her fragile figure in this film.

After that she completed 450 films belonging to different languages. After marriage she took a break in the mid-1990s. She returned back to television in 2004 and since then active in the entertainment field. She was married to Gopikrishnan, son of famous music director M. S. Viswanathan. But the marriage ended in a divorce. The couple had one son.
